The Memoirs of A Great Detective
John Wilson Murray

Foreword by Gwen M. Boniface
Introduction by Peter Calamai

In her Foreword, Gwen M. Boniface, Commission of the Ontario Provincial Police, notes that John Wilson Murray (1840-1906) was appointed Detective of the Department of Justice of the Province of Ontario in 1874 and served in that capacity for thirty-one years. He came to be regarded as the OPP's "godfather." In the Introduction to this edition, Peter Calamai engagingly tells the story of how Murray write these eighty-five "incidents" and published them in England in 1904. One internationally reported case was that of Reginald Birchall at Blenheim Swamp. Murray's role was well played by actor Douglas Campbell in CBC-TV's The Great Detective series (1979-82). Highly readable.
