The Magical Mysteries of Don Diavolo
Clayton Rawson as Stuart Towne

Another Lost Treasure from the Pulps #7

Don Diavolo is the fabulous Scarlet Wizard, a magician detective created by author and illustrator Clayton Rawson (1906-1971) writing under the pen-name Stuart Towne. Himself a magician as well as writer, Rawson is mainly remembered today for his magician detective, the Great Merlini, but not to be ignored are the four short novels he wrote about Don Diavolo.

Originally published in Red Star Mystery in 1940, now they are collected for the first time. This edition, edited and introduced by Garyn Roberts, includes many original illustrations and author photographs, not to mention six additional stories; a memoir about the author by Hugh Rawson; an article about Stuart Towne by Douglas Greene; and a discussion of Red Star Mystery magazine by Robert Weinberg.
