The Anglo-American novelist and film-writer James Hilton is famous for his novel Lost Horizon, but it is only one of his many popular novels. The Silver Flame was originally published in 1928 and was reprinted once in England and once (in an abridged form) in the United States.
Here is the original text of this novel about life and love on a Cotswold estate which Hilton wrote with "a touch of genuine poetry", to quote from a review in The Times Literary Supplement.
